Who Cares About the Safety of Sex Workers?

The Fox Cinema on Main Street has recently been the target of gentrifying when an undercover police officer pretended to be a trick and an local upscale business owner started getting pissy about some of the community members. It appears that this is an indoor space where hustlers are earning an income. If the City of Vancouver succeeds in closing the cinema down, it will be another indoor workspace closed down. If they want sex work off the streets, why are they trying to shut down the indoor options out there?

Similarly, WISH Society's funding for the Mobile Access Project (MAP Van) is seriously in jeopardy. The MAP Van is one of the most effective, important projects happening in the Downtown Eastside for street-based sex workers. It has impacted the lives of workers who are least likely to access other services - by going to them. Every community should have a MAP Van.
